The bio that makes someone click Follow

A social media bio has about three seconds and roughly 150 characters to answer the question: why should I follow this person? The accounts with strong bios answer it directly — who they are, what they post, and what the reader gets from following. The accounts with weak bios either over-explain ('I'm a mom, wife, coffee lover, and amateur photographer from Ohio who loves sunsets') or under-explain ('just here to vibe'). This prompt builds toward the specific middle: enough personality to be interesting, enough clarity to make the follow decision easy.

Platform matters enormously

A LinkedIn bio and an Instagram bio serve completely different audiences with completely different expectations. LinkedIn is professional, longer, and indexed by search. Instagram is casual, brief, and heavy on personality. TikTok rewards self-deprecating humor and directness. Twitter/X rewards wit and a clear point of view. Naming your platform tells the AI which norms to follow — otherwise you'll get a generic bio that fits nowhere perfectly and nowhere badly.
